virtual reality (AR/VR), laser scanning, robotics, 3D printing,
prefabrication.
The module is intended to enhance your skills and responses to new
and exciting digital technologies in the construction industry
exploring sustainability, 2D & 3D software, innovative
equipment/technologies, materials, and structures.
Each lecture will provide an overview of the topic under
consideration followed by group tutorials discussing/exploring the
topic further to provide an opportunity to enhance learning,
navigating research material and self-reflection.
The assessment will comprise of an illustrated ‘Portfolio Diary’ based
on the tasks listed below. The blank diary template will be provided
to you in week 1 in PowerPoint format – you are to record and write

responses to each task can be supported by any type of visual such
as sketches/doodles/spider diagrams and 300 words. As
professionals in the construction industry, you will soon understand
we, consultants use drawings, sketches and visuals to convey design,
space, materials, structure etc. With this in mind use
imagery/visuals to support your response to each task.
Each of the tasks in your portfolio diary should be clearly annotated
and clarity of your visual presentation is important. All material
should be referenced throughout if it’s not your own work. You are

within that role.
4. What is BIM in the Built environment and why do we need
it?

5. Explain a Sustainability output that the built environment
industry currently employ.
6. Materials and Structure – compare and select 1 of 3 case
studies.
7. Revit – Consider 6 advantages and disadvantages of the
software and describe your own experiences using it as a
whole. Submit screen shots of your model demonstrating a
range of drawings and 3D visuals.
The Portfolio Diary is to comprise of an A4 word document –
landscape format with each page containing your student ID,
module description, Trimester 2 and the academic year
(2024/2025). The template in PowerPoint format will be provided to
you so you can populate the information yourself.
There are 7 tasks to perform. Each task is to be documented in the
Portfolio Diary.
Each task has a word limit of 400 words.
Support and feedback will be available throughout the module. The
